Raising math achievement by the power of 2

Math Together/Get Ready 4 Algebra is designed for middle- and high- school students who need to fill gaps to prepare for Pre-Algebra and Algebra I, or who are perceived to be drop-out risks due to borderline skills, poverty, or poor peer and family support. The emphasis is on fractions, rational numbers and study skills, areas of weakness identified by Algebra I teachers. Students are also introduced to career options, 21st Century skills and social and emotional learning. Tutors are upper middle or high school students who benefit from additional direct instruction. Includes two 30-lesson modules that may be used as an in-school elective or extended day program.

Math Together/Elementary makes math real and exciting, motivating third- through fifth-grade students to investigate and experiment in an environment which promotes math literacy. Math Together integrates language arts and social studies with intensive mathematics problem solving to develop critical thinking and analytical skills. Students build competence and confidence in math, as they improve their reading, writing and understanding of U.S. history. Math Together incorporates many of the reading strategies used in our successful Reading Together program, such as predicting, rereading and guided oral reading, and adds metacognitive strategies focusing on problem solving. An optional literacy extension looks at U.S. history from an African American perspective. It allows students to compare information from multiple sources, focus more intensively on the history presented in the math lessons, and extends vocabulary work.

Move students beyond memorization to become confident mathematicians.

Word of Mouth
Peer assisted learning, usually tutoring, could revolutionize (mathematical) practice. When kids are partnered up, one strong student and one weaker student, achievement is always improved.
