| | | Take advantage of school resources | | Teachers, students and transportation are all in place for schools implementing Learning Together during the regular day. While the flexibility allows you to customize when and where you implement our programs, coordinator training, tutor preparation and prescriptive lessons ensure that the programs maintain their integrity whatever implementation model you select. Read more… Learning Together can suggest guidelines for selecting tutees through local or state assessment scores and teacher recommendations. We’ll also help you pick the tutor model that makes the most of your available resources. We send highly qualified trainers to your district to prepare program coordinators, who in turn train your tutors. Through direct instruction and role play, tutors learn literacy and/or math skills and practice strategies, giving them the skills and confidence to lead their tutees through each lesson.
| | | | School districts throughout the country have successfully implemented our in-school programs with a variety of mentor models: | | | | Before school | | | Cross-age programs: | | | | - One Texas site makes use of the time before class even begins. Tutor preparation begins over breakfast and the tutorial extends into the first instructional period.
- In another Texas district, some schools are using both Reading Together Grade Two and Grade Three. Because each campus is unique, the coordinators have adapted schedules. Some schools meet before school, while others use time during the regular school day and still others hold tutorials afterschool.
| | | | Adult mentor programs: | | | | - Corporations, private organizations and schools came together in North Carolina to help struggling elementary-school readers. Senior citizens volunteer as tutors and sites implement the program at a time that best fits their needs: before school, during the school day and afterschool.
| | | During school | | | | Cross-age programs: | | | | - Because each of the participating campuses in a Texas district had unique needs, different schedules were implemented: before, during or afterschool. For example, one site uses the lunch period to begin tutorials, while another holds preparation and tutorials afterschool.
- As an extention of the Title I program, a North Carolina school implemented Reading Together to specifically target qualifying students. Tutor preparation and tutoring sessions are conducted first thing in the morning so that students start their day ready to learn.

- Cabell County, WV
- Prince George's County, MD
| | | | Adult mentor programs: | | | | - Schools in Iowa made a connection with senior citizens and retired teachers. These senior tutors developed an excellent rapport and were very effective working with their second-grade tutees.
- Carrollton-Farmers Branch, TX
