Math Together

Learning Together’s framework rests soundly on scientifically-based practices in literacy and mathematics instruction. Structured interactions, with step-by-step scripted lessons, consistently reinforce strategies for intentional thinking and active engagement to enhance understanding of text or math concepts.

Research has proven that whether a tutor or mentor is an older student or adult, structured tutoring takes advantage of the powerful influence that socialization experiences can have on academic achievement and motivation.  With the right training and appropriate tools, tutoring can make a significant difference in the academic life of a child.

Cross-age Tutoring

In each Reading Together tutorial, reading, writing, speaking and listening are practiced.  Tutees have many opportunities to interact with the text, as tutors monitor progress and lend support.  Each step of the tutorial,l from the warm-up chat to predicting to journal writing to debriefing, employs proven reading strategies.

…the comprehension strategies students learn actually carry over to the classroom reading lessons. Teachers note how they implement the strategies in small groups. The reading strategies taught are based on strong research that supports the metacognition of students learning to read.
